In the Quarterly of December 1969, Whole No. 68, p. 1281, we published an abstract of the Confederate service of C. A. Sparks. A distant cousin of C. A. Sparks, Mrs. Aldean A. Eakin of Pebble Beach,California, has provided the following identification of C. A. Sparks, pointing out that his full name was Cicero Augustus Sparks, though he was always known as "Gus."
40.2.1 Cicero Augustus (Gus) Sparks was born February 14, 1837, in Blount Springs, Blount County, Alabama.
He was a son of 40.2 James Robert Sparks and (Correction Note from issue 136- change wife to) Susan (Harbin) Sparks.
He was a grandson of 40. John and Sarah (Tickle) Sparks (see the Quarterly of March 1961, Whole No. 33, pp. 540-541 5140-142 for a sketch of this family.
40.2.1 Cicero Augustus Sparks married Henrietta McCann on February 9, 18614; she was born November 8, 1837, in Aberdeen, Mississippi. They were married in Waco, Texas. When the 1860 census was taken, "Gus" Sparks was listed as a Hotel clerk. On the 1880 census of McLennan County, Texas, he was listed as a Cotton Buyer.

40.2.1.1 Fannie F. Sparks, born ca. 1868; She married her first cousin, 40.4.x John Wesley Downs, son of W. W. and 40.4 Henrietta (Sparks) Downs, on October 2, 1889, in Waco, Texas.
40.2.1.2 Johnnie M. Sparks, born ca. 1872; and
40.2.1.3 Jessie F. Sparks, born ca. 1868.
40.2.1 "Gus" Sparks died on April 2, 1888, in Waco, Texas.
