Sheri K. Pettit, Genealogy Specialist with the Boyd County, Kentucky, Public Library, has generously copied for us some Sparks records that she has found in a publication called the Christian Observer that began publication at Catlettsburg, Kentucky, in 1867. Though founded by Methodists, Ms. Pettit has noted that "a few Baptists and Presbyterians were listed." Its name was changed in 1872 to The Central Methodist. It was published until 1901.
Issue of July 16, 1867. "Married at the residence of J. G. Ball near Grayson, Kentucky by Rev. S. Martin, C. W. Sparks to Miss Rebecca Burchett, all of Carter County, Kentucky. "
Issue of April 11, 1874. "Married at the residence of the bride's father in Nicholas County, West Virginia, on March 25, 1874, by Rev. Jos. L. Smith --Mr. Noah F. Sparks and Miss Mildred J. Foster, all of Nicholas County."
Issue of 1874. "Married at the residence of the bride's father in Nicholas County, West Virginia, on April 12, 1874, by Rev J. L. Smith --John Morton and Martha E. Sparks."
Ms. Pettit also sent a photocopy of the following announcement appearing in the November 28, 1929, issue of the Carter County [Kentucky] Herald published at Olive Hill:

Ms. Pettit also photocopied the following obituary for us, also from the Carter County Herald:
IN LOVING MEMORY
Mrs. Annie Sparks, wife of John Milford Sparks and youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Rosberry, of Enterprise: was born October 7th, 1905 and departed this life December 4th, 1929, at Marion, Ind. of tuberculosis and pneumonia fever. She leaves behind, besides a loving husband, three children,
John Lee Sparks, 6;
Elmer Sparks, 4; and
Ava Marie Sparks, 2 years of age;
Five brothers, Henry and Robert, of Soldier, Audie, of Marion, Ind., Sanaford of Gas City, Ind.; William, of Morgan county; one sister, Mrs. Nellie Bradley, of Soldier. Her mother, Mrs. Maggie Sparks, and a host of other relatives and friends are left to mourn their loss.
The funeral services were conducted at the home Sunday afternoon by Rev. Furnish, of Soldier and Rev. Day of Enterprise, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Bradley cemetery near the home amidst a host of sorrowing relatives and friends who had gathered to pay the dear woman their last sad respects.
