The 1850 census of Anson County, North Carolina, lists a John Sparks, age 38 (thus born ca. 1812), by occupation a "mecanic" with place of birth as North Carolina. Living with him was Frances Sparks, age 42 (thus born ca. 1808) who was doubtless his wife. She was also born in North Carolina. Living with them were children named James A. Sparks, age 10, and Zachry Sparks, age 4. A "Neoma Sparks" was also listed on this census as 62 years old (we cannot be sure of the handwriting) and a native of North Carolina. She was living in the family of James P. Floid, age 24, and Margaret Floid, age 17. Also living in the family was Sarah Smith, age 57. All were natives of North Carolina.

Mrs. Milton Floyd of 4063 Woodland Park Road, Grants Pass, Oregon (97526) has written regarding her husband's great-grandfather, Joseph Zachary Taylor Sparks, who was born August 25, 1845, and died September 2, 1914. His daughter, Dovie I. Sparks (born January 22, 1886), married John Harkins; she was the grandmother of Milton Floyd. It is believed that Joseph Zachary Taylor Sparks was the four-year old listed on the 1850 census of Anson County, a son of John Sparks. Does anyone have knowledge of this family?
