SPARKS HOUSEHOLDS APPEARING ON
THE 1800 CENSUS OF MAINE

With the publication of the following record of Sparks households appearing on the 1800 census of Maine, we now complete the Maine census reports from 1740 through 1850. That for 1790 appeared in the very first issue of the Quarterly, March 1953, p. 5. In the Quarterly of June 1988, Whole No. 142, pp. 3244-48, we published the record of Sparkses appearing on the Maine censuses of 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840, and 1850. The introductory note given there (p. 3244) will not be repeated here.

The David Sparks shown as heading a household in Cumberland County, Maine, in 1800 was born ca. 1745 and died in 1820. His service in the American Revolution, as described in his applications papers for a pension in 1818, was described in the Quarterly of June 1979, Whole No. 106, pp. 2100-03. We have not succeeded in tracing his parentage nor his descendants.

The Sparkses shown as living in Lincoln County, Maine, in 1800 were all members of the same family which was covered in considerable detail in the Quarterly of March 1979, Whole No. 105, pp. 2067-92.

We have not identified the Thomas Sparks who appeared on the 1800 census of Washington County, Maine.
